Muskets and Tomahawks - The Peninsular War 1807-1814

As I mentioned in the Extra Life post I'm planning on making two Muskets and Tomahawks forces to play Sharpe and his Chosen Men against the French during the Peninsular War. Just like the earliest episodes of Sean Bean's series.

Since starting Bolt Action a few months back I've been looking into other historical periods that'd be fun to play and interested me. I was looking hard at Saga: Dark Ages Skirmish Game, and I'm not ruling it out at all. :) But more importantly it led me to Studio Tomahawks Muskets and Tomahawks. The game is actually a rule set for playing skirmish games in the French Indian Wars (1754-1763) in North America, but I'm pretty sure with the right troop selections it do the Napoleonic job nicely.

I'd looked around for a rule set, most of what I found was for larger scale games and the excellent looking Sharp Practice Napoleonic skirmish game just didn't feel right for me. I heard of Muskets and Tomahawks on the Meeples & Miniatures podcast, their review was great with a lot of detail. The sound of how it played and the numbers of models used was perfect. Plus the missions and secondary missions really tempted me.

So I got a hold of the rules and worked out some army lists and have put in an order for the models I need from Warlord Games and Perry Miniatures. Next post I'll look into the lists a little and the models I've ordered, Right now I can't wait for them to arrive.

Tabletop Workshop Village

I recently received my order through from Tabletop Workshop, a fairly new British plastic terrain company with a great and growing selection of buildings. They have a unique place in the market right now, full on plastic moulded buildings of a high quality and amazing simplicity (all four of my four buildings consisted of just seven pieces each). The first building I built, randomly chosen the Barn, I put together in the car as soon as I picked up the package.

Quiet times in the hobby the past two weeks, D&D has been off and that cuts out not only my roleplaying but also my main hobby time each week.

However, to support Extra Life, and to get my hobby fix, I bid on a French painted Napoleonic trumpeter.

We had a fantastic session of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Ed. last night. Most of it was centeted around one room and a simple curse that befell one of our party.

Cleric of Torm (Melchett): "Darling, why do you worship at that alter to the evil Torm?"

Paladin of Torm (Darling): "He is out God Melchett, how dare you blaspheme so?"

Cleric of Torm (Melchett): "What do you say? You worship Torm? For that you die!"

Dead Snow?!

Just a quick share. During DnD last night I made these five zombie Nazis. 

Combining parts from Warlord Games' German WWII models and Mantic Games' zombies. I had them all just lying around from various other purchases and figured they were bound to get some use if I combined them. 

They go together fairly well with just a little Green Stuff here and there to join stuff up. I've enough pieces for about 20 of them so I'll try and find time to stick a few more together soon. 

Bolt Action Game Report - Defence of the Lisieux Library

Hannes and I played a game of Bolt Action this week, he came at my small American and British force (ca.1500pts.) with a large elite formation (ca.3000pts.). Two Stug and two Tigers alongside a mechanised Waffen SS and Pioneer force. We had a great game over six turns, late into the night. As befits a a game that was more focused on the challenge of the battle and the story we didn't call a winner at the end of the game.

New Look Blog

If anyone here remembers the blog from before then they'll see the difference clearly. Firstly I've dropped the Inquisitor Drake name for Drake Poldragon, this is to mark the change from being very 40k focused to more about what I'm doing within the much larger hobby. I've also gone for a lighter and more earthy colour scheme, again to pull away from the gothic dark past of the blog.

I'm hoping to include a much wider range of topics now, including the board games. I play and more of the background modelling I do. Terrain, gaming table, Dungeons and Dragons, the works. I hope people enjoy the blog, I'd love comments. I hope I can pull off a more regular posting schedule and turn my little corner of the hobby into something others can also enjoy.

British 2nd Commandos

My box of Commandos arrived last week and I've been having great fun putting them together.They are even better models than the American infantry I began with. I've designed a list, 600 points of Commandos built from this box and a Tamiya Bren Carrier.

Bolt Action - A Forray into WWII Gaming

Hey, long time no see. So it's back to the blog for me, inspired by a new game Bolt Action.

I'm going to try and record the forming of my British Commando force. Hopefully with a bit of motivation behind me I'll even keep some decent level of posting here, maybe a few Dark Angel posts too.

Now here are a few pics of my first couple of games. My friend Hannes and I played a couple of 500 point games last week. My Commandos still haven't arrived so I was using the Assault on Normandy US Infantry against Hannes' German force. The Stug was scary...
